The Franklin

Featuring elements of the Neo-Classical Revival style, The Franklin Building is a three story commercial building located on the southwest side of North Franklin Street between Morgan and Twiggs Streets. The c.1895 brick building originally featured a brick primary façade with arched windows at the third floor. However, historic photographs show that this façade was altered around 1915 when the Grand Theatre occupied the building. At that time, the primary façade was clad in glazed terra cotta tiles, and the fenestration pattern was altered. These alterations remained in place prior to renovation, although the wood windows were replaced with metal windows c.1990, and the first story storefront has changed over the years to accommodate changes in use. Additionally, a pent roof was added at the parapet c.1980.
